The Sablewood: Wedding Venue in Schoharie, NY

The Sablewood wedding venue in Schoharie, NY

The Sablewood

Address: 5038 State Route 30, Schoharie, NY 12157

Website: thesablewood.com

The Sablewood sits on 120 acres in the Schoharie Valley, thirty-five minutes west of Albany and under three hours from either New York City or Boston. The barn it is named for was built around 1870, stands three stories, peaks at forty feet, and has a 1920s crystal chandelier hanging in the middle of it. The scale is the point, and the restoration left it legible as a barn rather than smoothing it into a ballroom.

There are two barns, not one. Sablewood is the black barn, and Charlington is the white one, and having both is the reason weather stops being a conversation here. Your rental includes the use of both, climate controlled, and the venue writes the inclement weather plan rather than leaving it to you at nine in the morning. They host one event per day, so the property is yours. Both barns are NYS code compliant and ADA accessible, which matters more than it sounds when somebody’s grandmother is coming.

The capacity runs to 175 seated for ceremony and dining with a large dance floor still in play, though most weddings here land between 75 and 150. The parking lot takes up to 70 cars and full-size 55 to 60 passenger coaches, so a shuttle from Albany is straightforward.

Catering is exclusive and you choose from their list: 2Shea Catering, Nicole’s Catering, or Mazzone Hospitality. Bar service runs through your caterer with professional bartenders, which is how New York liquor law works for a venue like this. Bring what you have in mind to the first conversation and they will build the package around it.

The season runs April through November. Getting-ready suites open at nine, vendors load in at eleven, and the night ends at ten with the last vendors off the property by eleven.

On cost, the figure below is the Sablewood’s own, quoted from their FAQ page rather than from me or from a listing site. They write that a wedding of “approximately 120 guests starts around $50,000 which includes our venue fee and external vendors…such as catering with 5 hours of open bar, photographer, DJ, and florist.” That is a whole-wedding total rather than a rental rate, so treat it as a planning anchor and ask them for the venue fee on its own.

Figures as published by the venue, October 2026. Confirm directly.

An early start is how you get the most out of this property. Suites open at nine, so a relaxed morning, a first look in the afternoon and portraits across the grounds before dinner will give you the whole estate while the light is on it, and leave the evening entirely to the party.

The other thing worth knowing is the chandelier and the forty-foot peak. There is a lot of vertical in this room and it rewards stepping back, so leave a little room in the timeline for wide frames once it is lit.
