New York Film Wedding Photographer
Andrew Franciosa

I shoot film alongside digital on weddings and sessions across New York. It is not a separate style or a different photographer showing up, it is a second camera running through the same day, picking up the frames that suit it.

How film works alongside digital

Film is an add-on. Your coverage, your timeline and everything you receive stay exactly as they would be without it, and the film frames arrive on top. Nothing gets traded away to make room for it, which is the question most couples are really asking when they ask about film.

Turnaround is usually quick enough that the scans come back with your main wedding gallery rather than weeks behind it, so you are not waiting on a second delivery.

What I shoot

My main film camera is a Leica M6. Alongside it I often have a few plastic toy cameras in the bag, which are unpredictable in the way people hope film will be, and some of my favourite frames from a day come off them.

I am always switching stocks and labs rather than settling on one look. That is deliberate. Film is the part of my work where I want some room for the result to surprise me, and locking down a formula takes that away.

Where I shoot film in New York

The Hudson Valley. Most of my film work happens here. There is a winter wedding at Basilica Hudson on film, a Hudson Valley wedding at Cavalli, a rainy elopement at Minnewaska and a summer farm wedding at Blooming Hill, all shot on film.

Troy, Albany and the Capital Region. Film suits the brick and the light up here. See Adam and Tierney’s Takk House wedding, an Albany City Hall elopement and an Albany engagement session, all on film.

The Catskills and the Schoharie Valley. Further west the properties get bigger and the light goes longer. Tori and Dan’s Maples Estate wedding and a Taconic Ridge Farm wedding are both here on film.

New York City. City Hall on film is one of my favourite things to shoot, and a summer NYC City Hall elopement on film is in the galleries below. The city rewards a small camera and a short lens more than almost anywhere else I work.

The Adirondacks and further afield. I shoot up north and I travel for weddings. An Acadia elopement in Maine is in the film work too. If you are getting married somewhere not listed here, ask anyway.

Adding film to your wedding or session

Film can be added to any wedding or engagement session. There is no price listed for it on the site because it depends on how much you want and what the day looks like, so it is quoted alongside everything else. You can see what the base coverage includes on the pricing page, or just ask me when we talk.

If you want the imperfection and the slight unpredictability of film somewhere in your wedding photographs, I would love to hear what you have in mind.
