The Maples Estate: Wedding Venue in Schoharie, NY

The Maples Estate
Address: 238 Schoharie Hill Road, Schoharie, NY 12157

The Maples Estate is not a venue you rent for a day. It is a four-day weekend, Thursday to Sunday, with the estate closed to everyone but you and a farmhouse you actually sleep in. It sits in the Schoharie Valley, west of the Hudson Valley and north of the Catskills, and it is built around the idea that the wedding is the middle of the weekend rather than the whole point of it.
The weekend runs across the farmhouse, the pavilion where dinner happens, the meadow, the lawn, the veranda and the pond. Thursday is arrival, lawn games and a casual dinner. Friday is the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Saturday is the wedding, ending at a campfire. Sunday you wake up married and have breakfast before anyone drives anywhere.
The farmhouse sleeps up to 17, and those three nights are part of the package, so the people closest to you are on the property the whole time rather than checking in and out of somewhere twenty minutes away. There is a glam room for getting ready, parking for more than fifty cars, and a golf cart with a driver, which sounds like a small thing until somebody is crossing a meadow in heels.
Capacity runs to 200, with a $2,500 large-event fee above 150 guests, and the season is mid May to mid October. Full-service planning and creative direction are part of the package rather than something you add, which is the real difference between this and a venue rental. Catering, florals, entertainment and photography are chosen separately and are not in the estate fee.
The Maples Estate publishes its pricing, which is rarer than it should be, so these are their figures rather than mine. The Signature Wedding Weekend Package is $53,000, or $49,000 for micro weddings of thirty guests or fewer. That covers four days of exclusive access, three nights in the farmhouse, planning and creative direction, tables, chairs, the props closet, lawn and board games, campfires, parking, the golf cart and the lighting.
The estate is also open about the fuller picture, noting that a complete weekend with every vendor counted typically lands somewhere around $150,000 to $200,000 and up. Useful to have in view early so you can plan towards it.

A weekend like this changes what the photographs are. On a single-day wedding most of what I make happens inside a nine-hour window, and the pictures of people being at ease are the ones we have to go looking for. Here they are just there, because by Saturday everyone has already had two days together and nobody is performing. If you book this place, the thing I would push for is coverage that reaches beyond the wedding day itself. Thursday night around the fire and Sunday breakfast are not filler, and they are frequently the frames people keep.
