M&D Farm is 58 acres in Westerlo, south-west of Albany, built around a restored 1940s barn and an 1800s farmhouse with gardens, a pond and open field between them. You will also see it written as M&D Farms, M and D Farm, or MND Farm after its website, and they are all the same place. It suits couples who want the day to move around outdoors rather than sit in one room.

There are four places to hold the ceremony, and which you pick changes the shape of the day more than anything else you will decide here: the front courtyard gardens, inside the barn, pondside, or the back field alley. The barn carries the dancing and the lounge, and there is a speakeasy bar inside plus a second bar out in the garden.

Rain has a real answer. If the forecast is against you the ceremony moves into the 1940s barn, and you can hold the decision on a tent until 72 hours before the day rather than committing months out.

The spaces, and what comes with them

The site rental covers more than most places at this size. You get the barn gallery with its lounge and dance space, the speakeasy and garden bars, the pondside lounge, the gardens with their fountains and pergolas, a farmhouse suite with its own bathroom, a luxury restroom trailer, parking for 42 cars, 19 dining tables and 300 bistro chairs, bistro lighting, a fire pit, cornhole, bocce and croquet, Adirondack chairs, market umbrellas and the outdoor props. A preferred vendor list comes with it.

Weddings run late May through early October, with check-in from 10:00am. Guest count is capped at 150, including the two of you.

The Day Of Event Site Rental is $16,500 for 0 to 150 guests. Catering is separate and starts at approximately $180 per guest plus tax and service, and your caterer has to hold a New York State full liquor licence, so the bar runs through them. There are add-ons for extended farmhouse access and for planning and coordination, which they quote case by case.

An unhurried timeline suits this place. A first look in the afternoon, portraits before dinner while the gardens still have light on them, and toasts that keep moving will give you the best of the property and leave the evening free to be an evening.

The four ceremony spots also photograph completely differently. The courtyard gardens and pondside give you afternoon light and real depth behind you. Inside the barn everything draws in and the pictures get more intimate. Worth walking all four in person before you choose, rather than picking from the website.
