Eavan & Josh at Stonehill’s Farmhouse
Eavan and Josh were easygoing from the start. They wanted a really nice way to show their guests what upstate New York is like, and they got it: perfect weather, a perfect weekend and the perfect location.
They held the whole weekend at Stonehill’s Farmhouse in Accord, the heart of the Catskills, with plenty for guests to do around it: hiking, Skate Time, Arrowood, Ollie’s, and the list goes on. The food matched. Promises Kept is not your typical wedding catering, and cocktail hour was insane, with a raw bar, caviar scotch eggs and toasted rice yuzu sashimi.
The ceremony sat up on a hill, just far enough away to put everyone in a different zone for the wedding itself. Afterward we all wandered downhill to the back of the barn for cocktail hour. We took a quick loop through the property’s trails for portraits, then got Eavan and Josh back to the people who came to celebrate with them.
That was the point. The day was never a list of things to do. Eavan and Josh spent it with their friends and family, and on the dance floor they were right in the middle of it, singing, dancing, and celebrating along with everyone.
How We Met
We’re a Bumble success story! Josh had just transitioned out of the Army and was getting ready to start grad school at the University of Texas at Austin. Around the same time, Eavan had moved from New York City to Austin in search of warmer weather. Our first date was at the Austin Beer Garden, where a few beers and plenty of laughs turned into an instant connection.
Our Engagement Story
Josh proposed during a hike in Carmel-by-the-Sea, with the Pacific Ocean stretching out below us from a beautiful overlook. Eavan’s sister and her boyfriend were there to capture the moment, and after Josh got down on one knee and Eavan said yes, we spent the rest of the day wine tasting around Carmel. It was a beautiful day!
Marriage to us means…
Marriage, to us, means being true partners and teammates through all of life’s seasons. It’s appreciating the ordinary days, making sure the other person never has to carry anything alone, even when there’s nothing either of us can fix, and finding plenty of reasons to laugh and have fun along the way. We believe marriage should bring out the best in each of us, while also giving us the understanding and support we need when we’re not at our best. Life can be hard, and choosing the right person to face it with is one of the biggest and most meaningful decisions we’ll ever make. We believe we’ve made the right choice 🙂
How did you choose Stonehill’s Farmhouse?
We first imagined a destination wedding in Ireland, but wanted all our friends and family to be able to celebrate with us. So we set out to create that same weekend togetherness closer to home. Eavan grew up about an hour south of Kingston and knew it had great food and plenty of places for guests to stay. We chose a fall weekend in upstate New York, and a venue where we could stay onsite, enjoy the natural beauty, and host our welcome dinner, wedding, after party, and brunch all in one place. It was exactly the weekend we had hoped for, and the weather was perfect.
A memorable moment from our wedding was…
There were so many memorable moments, but one that stands out was arriving at cocktail hour. After the ceremony, we had a quiet moment together with champagne and hors d’oeuvres, then took a few photos with our wonderful photographer, Andrew. We were excited to make it to the last 30 minutes of cocktail hour, but nothing could have prepared us for what we saw as we walked up the path. Our friends and family cheered, and for the first time, we saw our vision come to life with all of our favorite people in one place. Promises Kept was shucking oysters, the String Girls were playing, and the whole scene felt like something out of a movie. We were overwhelmed with joy as we walked into our celebration surrounded by so much love. It was truly special.
If I could give other couples one piece of advice…
Everyone will tell you to slow down, take a breath, and soak in your wedding day. They’re right. We prepared for our wedding like we were getting ready for a big game. You spend months, sometimes years, planning and practicing, and when the day arrives, you have to trust that all that preparation will carry you through.
You choose your vendor team, share your vision, and then trust them to bring it to life, with their own thoughtful touches along the way. When the day comes, take a breath and let go of the details. Enjoy the people you love, be present for the moments as they happen, and leave it all on the dance floor. You won’t regret a thing. You’ll only wish the day had lasted a little longer
Thank you to the team
