Amber & Brendan’s Backyard Wedding
How We Met
We met in 2016 (junior year of high school) through a mutual friend who moved from Brendan’s school to Amber’s and brought her friend groups together. There were certainly mutual crushes at first sight but it was months before we admitted it. Brendan asked Amber on a date that summer, and the rest is history. We made it official the first day of senior year.
Our Engagement Story
Amber moved to State College, PA for Brendan’s last year at Penn State earning his engineering degree, officially beating years of long distance as they went to different colleges. 3 days before moving to Connecticut for work, Brendan brought Amber to Jo Hays Vista (scenic overlook in town) on her birthday and proposed right at sunset. He had her fooled as to why they were there until he saw their friends already sitting there waiting for them to arrive.
Marriage to us means…
Teamwork and growing together. For us, it didn’t change much in our daily lives, but it represents the life we have built over the last 9 years.
How did you choose your location?
Amber’s parents have a beautiful remote property in Upstate New York, with a Mountain View in the backyard. After looking briefly at venues without falling in love with any, having the wedding at the property just felt right.
A memorable moment from our wedding was…
A few friends linked their belts together and made a limbo bar on the dance floor, which was packed all night! The couple also handed out plates in the buffet line to be sure they personally welcomed every guest and thanked them for coming.
If I could give other couples to be one piece of advice…
Don’t get stressed about the little things. Everything falls into place. And hire a day of coordinator! Ours was a godsend and we didn’t have to worry about a thing.
