Merissa & Josh’s Lakota’s Farm Wedding

How We Met

We met our sophomore year at the University of Delaware, and after years of being in the same social circles, I decided I liked Josh’s new beard look and he decided to challenge me to arcade games at the college bar he lost “on purpose.” We made a serious connection the last few weeks of senior year but unfortunately were already going our separate ways to New York/New Jersey and Boston. A whole year and many texts, phone calls and love letters later, we finally started dating 🙂

Our Engagement Story

I had the day off from work right before the holidays, so Josh decided we should take a walk in Middlesex Fells, which is a reservation near our Boston apartment. We walked to Wright’s Tower which had a view of Boston and where we first started our lives together. I was really nervous and kind of knew what was coming so thought I should maybe sit down. Josh kindly and patiently asked me to stand up so he could get down on one knee. I cried not just tears but “streams” according to Josh.

Marriage to us means…

Commitment and lifelong joy with the one person in this life you get to choose.

A memorable moment from our wedding was…

Our first look and private vows where our ceremony would’ve been if it hadn’t rained (which was no surprise at this point), and the last dance of the night when the DJ played “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. Josh and I danced and cried in the middle of the dancefloor while everyone else surrounded us, swaying and singing along.

How did you choose your venue?

We knew we wanted a barn wedding and Lakota’s was close to home while also being the most elegant and whimsical of all the options we toured. We also had great trust in the team there to be professional and thoughtful throughout the whole experience.

If I could give other couples to be one piece of advice…

Remember why you’re doing this and that it truly will be the most special day of your life. While I know now that it’s natural for every couple to go through these (many) challenges, I didn’t know it before. In the end we came out stronger and couldn’t have asked for a better day and sendoff for the rest of our lives together.
