Hannah & Jesse’s Summer Farm Road Estate Wedding
Hannah and Jesse got married at Farm Road Estate in Vermont, and they were about as relaxed as two people can be on their own wedding day. They built the day around their families, with thoughtful touches running through all of it. Hannah made ceramic bud vases by hand as favors, so every guest went home with something she had actually made (find them in the photos of the tables at the reception).
The ceremony had a false start, but was handled with grace by all. The sky went dark and everyone moved back into the manor to wait out the rain, and the building held every guest comfortably inside and out on the porches. The team at Farm Road Estate handled the delay without any of it feeling stressful. The rain passed, everyone walked back out, and the ceremony went ahead.
Farm Road Estate is spread across a lot of land, which gives you far more to work with than the acreage alone suggests. Cocktail hour sits just off the main building, with bars inside and out and a patio for mingling after the ceremony. The main reception tent is clear, so the light through as the sun sets is lovely to shoot in. Past the buildings there are trails, wildflowers, and a cut flower garden, and the tree line gives you some great shaded photo spots, even mid-day.
Hannah’s friends were invited to stop by while she was getting ready, before she put on the dress she had made from fabric she chose herself (and has a matching tie cut from the same fabric for Jesse). A lot of them came, and most were crying by the time they left. Jesse got emotional through his vows, and Hannah helped him through the rest of them, which was such a beautiful moment to see during the ceremony. Later the dance floor filled up and stayed that way. Nothing about the day happened because they felt they had to do it, which is why all of it felt very them.
How We Met
We met at a mutual friend’s Shrek-themed 30th birthday party. Jesse was dressed as Puss in Boots and Hannah was one of the singing Duloc Dolls.
Our Engagement Story
Jesse planned a day of biking – we started at his old apartment, then we biked to Hannah’s old apartment and had lunch in the park where we had our first date, then we biked to our current house and he proposed on the hill in the middle of the park that is at the end of our street. It turns out that hill is actually an old landfill site lol. Hannah’s siblings surprised her by popping out of the bushes afterward and then we went to a big party at a friend’s house.
How did you pick Farm Road Estate?
We did a Google search and then went to see it and instantly fell in love. It was the only venue we visited. What did it for us was the beauty of the farm and the ponds, the amount of space for field day activities, the fact that 100 people could stay on property, and the incredible staff who planned, cooked and cleaned up all weekend.
A memorable moment from our wedding was…
When Hannah walked down the aisle to see Jesse absolutely sobbing. Or when Hannah heard her nephew turn to Jesse’s nephew right before they walked down the aisle together as flower boys and say, “you’re my best friend” despite meeting for the first time earlier that day.
If I could give other couples to be one piece of advice…
Plan for people to help with clean up on Sunday. Give them a heads up and make sure they are committed to staying on Sunday to help clean after everyone else leaves.
